Now that the holidays are coming up, there is so much to look forward to. One of the most notable parts of the season is all the delicious foods you will enjoy. However, it’s important to be mindful of your dental health so you don’t need to spend the new year in the treatment chair. Fortunately, not all holiday dishes are harmful. Here are some delicious treats that your dentist approves of.
Turkey
If you are going to be having turkey for your Christmas dinner, you are definitely on the right track. Lean protein, like turkey, is an excellent option. Turkey contains both phosphorus and protein. Both of these are necessary for you to maintain strong, healthy teeth. If you want to cut down on calories, enjoy your turkey without the skin.
Vegetables
You’ve been told about the benefits of vegetables since you were a kid. Crunchy veggies, like carrots and celery, are especially good for your teeth because they help to clean them. They can also increase saliva production in your mouth, leaving you with plenty of vitamins and minerals that your body needs to thrive. Try setting out a veggie tray before the big entrée comes out. Pair your veggies with your favorite dip, like hummus.
Cheese
Next to your veggie tray, consider putting together a cheese platter. Not only is cheese delicious, but cheese is high in calcium which keeps your teeth strong. Cheese also helps to balance the pH levels inside your mouth, preventing tooth decay. There are so many different types of cheese out there from around the world. You are bound to find one that makes your mouth water.
Deviled Eggs
Egg yolks are an excellent source of vitamin D, which is necessary for your body to absorb calcium. You could just stick to boiled eggs with a pinch of salt, but why not spice it up a bit with some mayonnaise, mustard, black pepper, and paprika for a special treat.
Low-Sugar Desserts
Holiday dinner isn’t the same without dessert. Fortunately, not all deserts are harmful to your teeth. Try to choose recipes that have a limited amount of refined sugar. You can replace this sweetness by using naturally sweet ingredients, like applesauce, dates, or bananas.
It’s the time of year we’ve all been waiting for. To avoid spending the new year in the dental chair, be mindful of the dishes you are making for holiday dinner. This way, you can enjoy a delicious meal without paying the price.
