New year's resolution list that includes visiting the dentist

A brand-new year is just around the corner bringing hope for new beginnings, wholesome resolutions, and chances to try new things. Now’s the perfect time to reflect on how you have grown and what you’ve accomplished the past 12 months, as well as set goals for the next. If you haven’t already included your oral health on the list of things you’d like to improve, now’s the perfect time to consider scheduling your next dental examination. Continue reading to learn 3 reasons why!

Reason #1: Insurance Renewal

Many insurance policies refresh with the new year, meaning that you are free to take advantage of the numerous benefits that come with your plan. Most programs include preventative care appointments, so go ahead and get one on the calendar! A basic checkup now can avoid complicated (and costly!) issues down the road. Plus, it is not uncommon for patients to let oral hygiene slip over the holidays and your teeth can only benefit from having a professional cleaning.

Reason #2: Prevent Problems

It is important to have a dental checkup 6 months for a checkup to prevent serious concerns like cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer. Your dentist has the specialized training, experience, and instruments required to address problem areas before they progress. For example, gingivitis is hard to diagnose because symptoms are not noticeable until it reaches the later stages, and your gums recede. You could have a bad case right now and be completely unaware! This can be dangerous because the infection can enter your blood stream and spread to other areas. Seeing your dentist gives them the chance to mend any issues before that happens.

Reason #3: Enhance Your Smile

Though you’ll always cherish the memories with family and friends, you might have noticed flaws in your pearly whites when reviewing the many holiday photos you took together. Whether you indulged in too much spiced wine and stained your teeth, or bit into a turkey leg too hard and chipped one, the end of the year can leave your grin in a less-than-perfect condition. Addressing embarrassing issues before school or work gets busy again will give you the boost of confidence you need to make all your resolutions a reality.

There is no reason to delay! Making a dental appointment earlier in the year ensures that you will be ready to take on whatever life throws at you with a healthy, beautiful smile.
